Durant is the county seat of Bryan County and home to the headquarters of the Choctaw Nation, whose territory covers 6,952,960 acres in Southeastern Oklahoma and is the third-largest federally recognized Indigenous nation in the United States.
The city was founded by Dixon Durant, a Choctaw after a railroad came through the Choctaw territory.
