The fascinating story of Pauls Valley, OK

Pauls Valley takes its name from Smith Paul of North Carolina, who settled in the region in 1837 and married a Chickasaw woman. When the railroad arrived in 1887, the depot was to be called “Smith Paul’s Valley,” but this name was shortened to “Pauls Valley” to fit the railroad sign. (The painter left off the apostrophe.)
